Tacoma Rainiers Add August 25 Peanut Controlled Game

From Michael San Soucie (a big thanks to Michael!):

"Please put Wednesday, August 25th on your calendar to come out to Cheney Stadium and watch the future Mariners in action.  At Cheney Stadium you are much closer to the action than at Safeco Field so it is a great opportunity for the kids to feel like that are right in on the action.

Brief details are that we will have our own section of the grandstand that will be roped off just for us (approximately 130 seats).  This section will be peanut free so not peanuts or peanut products.  But unlike previous years, you will be able to bring other foods into this section so you won't miss the game.  Ticket price will be $9.95 and will include either a food coupon for a hot dog, chips, and soda or an option of a souvenir instead for those unable to eat the food items.  More details on this specific piece and on how to order your tickets will follow shortly.

What a great way to bring summer to a close right before heading back to school.  The Rainiers have been on fire lately and are currently in 1st place.  So plan to come out and support them as they make a run toward the playoffs."

Update on Tacoma Rainiers Peanut-Free Seating

From Michael Van Soucie (notice the ticket price for first 100 tickets!):

Well, baseball season has officially started so now is a great time to tell you all about another great opportunity to see baseball in person. The Tacoma Rainiers for the second year now will be offering a peanut free seating section for those that want to come out and see the Mariners of the future.

And this year, thanks to the sponsorship of Seattle Childrens' Hospital, the safe seating area will be on one of the party decks at Cheney Stadium. This is a unique and fun way to experience a baseball game. There is lots of room to mingle and enjoy the weather while also taking in the sights and sounds of the ballgame. This party deck gives you a great chance to snag a foul ball as well.

The date of the game is Sunday, May 24th with a start time of 1:30pm. This is Memorial Day Weekend so a great time even if you have to travel a bit to get there. No need to hurry right home as the next day is a holiday! What a great way to have fun over the holiday weekend without the huge costs of traveling out of state.

Tickets for this section are normally $26, but thanks to the sponsorship of Seattle Childrens' Hospital, the first 100 tickets sold will only cost $13. These tickets also usually come with food on the party deck, but since this is a food allergy awareness event, we have cut the food and this will be replaced with a Tacoma Rainiers souvenir instead. There will be a cotton candy station (sugar and food coloring) on the party deck as well as drinks available to all. You are welcome to bring in your own allergen free foods that your family requires. Just notify the security at the gate that you are with our group.

Please see the attached flyer for more details and for how to order tickets. Please email me if you have any additional questions on information I may have left out. Hope to party with you all on the deck this Memorial Day weekend.

P.S. Also remember there are 4 Mariners games this year with a peanut free zone. Go to www.Mariners.com/nopeanuts for more details on those games.

Seattle Mariners and Tacoma Rainiers Peanut Free Baseball

The good people at Washington FEAST were kind enough to pass the following news on to Food Allergy Buzz. A special thanks to Michael San Soucie for this info, and thanks to the individuals and groups responsible for arranging the peanut-free zone baseball games in Seattle and Tacoma this season.

"The Seattle Mariners are doubling their efforts this year to provide baseball in a safer environment for those with peanut allergies. We thought we had fun last year going to two Mariner games. For the 2009 season, they will be offering FOUR games during the season with a peanut free zone. And due to your requests I received and passed on to the Mariners, the first one is a Sunday day game! Play Ball!

Here are the dates, times, and opponents for the games being offered this upcoming season. Keep your eyes out for more information at a later date regarding ticket pricing and how to purchase tickets.

Game #1 - Sunday, May 3rd, 1:10pm vs. Oakland A's (this is Little League Day so kids may have the opportunity to go on the field before the game if you are comfortable doing that - more details on that later)

Game #2 - Wednesday, June 24th, 7:10pm vs. San Diego Padres (a little interleague play for the National League fans)

Game #3 - Tuesday, July 7th, 7:10pm vs. Baltimore Orioles

Game #4 - Monday, August 10th, 7:10pm vs. Chicago White Sox

The Mariners are also moving our group a bit closer to home plate this season. Our seating area will be sections 313 to 315 which provides somewhere between 200 and 250 seats per game depending on how we establish the safety buffer zones. Last seasons sections accommodated right around 150 per game with the buffer zones.

Also remember that Seattle Children's Hospital is sponsoring another baseball event on Sunday, May 24th at the Tacoma Rainiers game. This event will be held on one of the party decks at Cheney Stadium. The party decks provide a great atmosphere for watching the game and mingling at the same time."
